DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF ARMAMENTS
_The Directorate General of Armaments controls the provision of equipment and weapon systems tailored to the needs of the armed forces. At ministerial level, it is tasked with planning, directing and controlling all national and international armaments-related activities and working with politicians and parliament on defence and armaments issues.
Ministerial requirements are implemented by the Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (Bundesamt für Wehrtechnik und Beschaffung, BWB) and its agencies. The core task of the BWB is the management of all armaments projects with the exception of information technology management. Technical specialist tasks, technical and operational systems testing and the implementation of projects in the field of defence research and technology are the remit of the Bundeswehr technical centres and research institutes.
The German Liaison Office for Defence Materiel U.S.A./Canada represents Germany’s interests in matters of defence technology and armaments vis-à-vis U.S. and Canadian organizations. The Naval Arsenal is responsible for maintenance and logistics tasks for the Navy.
The Directorate General of Armaments, together with the BWB and its agencies, considers itself to be a competent partner for the armed forces and defence industry. The common objective is to fully support the Bundeswehr in performing its tasks on operations and to provide the military personnel with the best possible equipment.
